Here is the story:
I have several friends who keep their sugar levels in check. Some because of medical requirements, others are 'Health Enthusiasts' if you know what I mean... They mentioned more than once that this would be an advantageous route to explore with our products.
I looked into the area of 'Low Glycemic Index Gourmet Barbecue Products' and...
Low and behold! There was nothing to be found! The marketplace was empty!
Well... That was a good sign, the market was not already saturated. In fact, I may have identified a new market. It's been there all the time! It just didn't have a name!
It was not as easy as I first thought, refined sugar not only adds sweet but also brings out lots of other flavors. It was not just remove the sugar and replace it with a substitute. It was 'Trial & Taste' you might say. We didn't lower our standards one bit... so it was ALLOT of trials. Well, we think we have something to offer the world now. Something we would be proud to serve to our family and friends. That has always been our standard.
Once we got that far, then it was time to get them tested. The Glycemic Research Institute (GRI) is the worldwide leader in Glycemic Index Certification programs. They are the people that do the certifying. The seal with each product is their official OK.
It was at this point that we found out why the marketplace was empty!
Clinical Testing!!! (This next bit of information is taken from the Glycemic Solutions website)
To me, all that sounds like 'Long Time' and 'Expensive' to get.
It's my guess that is why most products just say 'Low Sugar', 'No Sugar Added', 'Low Carb.' or 'Diet'.
Well, here is where the rubber meets the road. Our Mission Statement says that we would not cut corners, so we are going through with it. It is our intention to go through the process to get the certifications of 'Low Glycemic' & 'Low Glycemic for Diabetics' for several of our products. We will keep you informed as to our progress.
We are putting our name on it, that's how confident we are! We will stand beside these products the same as our other products.
I got this far and realized I have not mentioned Diabetes. Well of course we are doing this for people with diabetes! Why not? Barbecue is for everyone and, like I said earlier, I found no Certified Low Glycemic Barbecue Products for Diabetics. I have a friend who for almost a year was keeping me up to date on news about the growth of diabetes in America specially with our youth. It can almost be considered a problem of epidemic proportions.
